Robert Harker was killed in the closing days of World War One, soon after receiving news of the birth of his daughter, Harriet. He died without ever seeing her.

Robert is buried in the Mont-Bernanchon Cemetary in northern France, see map (local copy, large area map). His grave is I-J-6, sixth from the right in the second row from the back as shown in this view of the rear of the cemetary:
