From: Jonathan Harston AFE Computer Services Date: ??-Apr-93 RE: Electronic mail, Internet, JANET I was given your name some time ago by someone on HKIEEE-BBS about six months ago when I was originally trying to find some information about sending electronic mail from Hong Kong on the Internet, specifically to places connected to JANET in the UK. I then had a lot of work to do, and so personal projects had to get put on hold for a while. However, my work and my personal interests are converging again, so I am now contacting you. Here we have a UNIX system that we use for central file-storing and for in-house electronic mail. I am exploring the feasability of being able to send and receive email externally. From my understanding, our UNIX system would just need to be connected to you. Mail we send would go to you, and it would get passed to the UK along with all the other mail you have going to the UK. Mail coming to us would go from the UK to you along with all your mail, and then our mail would come from you to us. We would need to discuss how to pay for IDD charges, etc. It is likely that we would only be mailing a small amount of mail, probably a few messages per week. Mostly, they will be to our associate UK company Acorn Computers, uk.co.acorn, and to some Universities and some third-party Acorn companies. Our UNIX system runs a version of BSD 4.3 UNIX. I hope that it is possible for us to take this further, and possible meet to discuss it. Jonathan Harston
