::: Area #112 (Doctor Who Echo) Message: #14949 (Read 2 times, has 0 replies, 6136 bytes) Date : Fri Jun 26 04:41:00 1998 From : ARTIMUS BROWN of fidonet#2:254/86 To : ALL Subject: 2 Who News 2/2 Bernice and Nicholas Courtney (the Brigadier) as her cat Wolsey, music and sound effects. Gary Russell (former editor of DWM and writer of several novels) and Nick Briggs (producer/director on numerous spin-off videos) have teamed with Jason Haigh-Ellery (associate producer of the Shakedown video) of Big Finish Productions in this new venture; Russell and Briggs had previously worked together on the Audio Visuals series of fan Doctor Who audio tapes in the late Eighties and early Nineties. Production on the two plays will take place in June and July. * Also coming on cassette in September is a collection of three Eighth Doctor short stories read by Paul McGann. These are The People's Temple by Paul Leonard (from Short Trips), Bounty by Peter Anghelides (recounting the Doctor and Sam's first adventure after the events of The Eight Doctors), and Dead Time by Andrew Miller. * The Ark is a special release designed to ensure each of the first seven Doctors is represented on video in the programme's thirty-fifth anniversary year. * In November 1998, The Ice Warriors will be released as a two-tape pack. The missing episodes two and three will be replaced by short bridges making use of soundbites, narration, photos, telesnaps and graphics. The tape will be dovetailed by a 25-minute-long documentary on the junking of Sixties and Seventies episodes and the search now underway across the globe. This will feature virtually every existing clip from incomplete episodes which could possibly be incorporated, including the full six minutes extant from Galaxy 4: 3. As well, a number of interviews will be recorded for the video, including those responsible for the return of numerous episodes/clips such as Ian Levine, David Stead, Gordon Hendry and Damian Shanahan, and possibly Jan Vincent-Rudzki and BBC Archives' Sue Malden. A bonus episode at the end of the tape is now also currently planned (The Underwater Menace: 3 is the likely candidate), and a special collectors' edition incorporating an audio CD of the two missing episodes is also under consideration. Exact plans for the Ice Warriors release have yet to be firmed up, however. * A further (as yet unspecified) audio release is apparently scheduled for November, though this may in fact be referring to the Eighth Doctor audio tape not set for a September release. * The double pack release of Revenge Of The Cybermen and Terror Of The Zygons will mark with first time these stories will be available on video in their unedited, episodic form. Also undergoing a similar treatment will be an episodic release of The Talons Of Weng-Chiang, paired with the Whose Doctor Who documentary originally aired around the same time. Doctor Who Comes To DVD (Apr. 26th, 1998) The requests of numerous fans will be answered in late 1998 or early 1999, as BBC Worldwide is planning a test release of one or two Doctor Who titles on DVD. The sales of these releases will determine whether the project will continue. Amongst the titles under consideration for the first wave of releases is The Five Doctors Special Edition. DWM Introduces Ninth Doctor (May 12th, 1998) In a move which may set Doctor Who Magazine's own Doctor Who continuity still further at odds with that of the novels, DWM #265 (published May 1998) sees the Eighth Doctor regenerating into his ninth incarnation at the conclusion of The Final Chapter. The new Doctor is visually based upon Nick Briggs, who previously appeared as the Doctor with companion Ria in DWM #173 (Party Animals, alongside the Seventh Doctor) and who has portrayed the Time Lord in the Audio Visuals series of fan-made audio adventures. There has been no indication of whether or not this is a permanent change. DWM previously split with New Adventures continuing by killing off Ace, despite having closely paralled the novels in the mid-Nineties.
