Monday January 12 1998, Artimus Brown said to Audrey Seddon: AB> As for an animated Doctor. Well, I for one wouldn't mind seeing it. AB> You have to admit, it does open up realms otherwise unatainable by live AB> action. In my book, it would be better than nothing. I recently spoke with SF-Fantasy author, Michael Moorcock (there's that name again), about a movie based on one of his major creations, and the long and short of the reply was that he didn't want to prostitute his characters to Hollywood for big money, having been burned once previously. He indicated, though, that he wouldn't mind seeing the character brought to life in the format of some high-quality animation. While I think this would work, both in Moorcock's case AND in that of Doctor Who, the "problem" that I see (and maybe this is just an American thing) is that animation tends to be equated with "cartoons," and these days, "cartoon" often means "half-hour commercial for someone's product." Frankly, I'm still wincing from the animated Star Trek of 25 years ago. They DID have one or two good stories -- "Yesteryear," for example -- but there were what? About twenty of them? A handful out of twenty isn't a great trek (er) record, and I'd have to see the Doctor have the same fate. Of course, Star Trek came back, to great success, so we don't sit around saying "You know, I loved the original show, but when they finished it off the way they did, it was really depressing, with the low-quality animation. " I'd like to see DW come back as it was, but alas, we had our chance and we seem to have blown it. :( --- GoldED 3.00.Beta2+ - Spank Our Wombats! * Origin: Valencia: "Smarter than the average bear."
