Jonathan,
  thank you for taking the time to explain. The IDE page
just says about 8-bit sectors and links to the 8-bit
prototype page. 

I took a guess and found that there's also a 16bit page
(unlinked) and I studied the circuit for both, however
there wasn't any information on either page to say if
the patch is compatible with both hardware types.

 Your answer has cleared that up, thanks.
