Nice idea. I did look at CoProFS a while ago which does the same thing but
for an 80186 board - technically it's certainly possible: the host side just
needs to poke the tube as though it were configured to be present and
swallow the startup banner.

Everything else after than can be wrapped up as block transfers. 

I'll put it on my list of things to think about, which has 12 other things
on it!
