I notice that it contains at least 8K and probably 16K of sideways RAM too -
that's what the 6264 chips are.

I agreee with Richard, that the other item is a low usage ZIF socket - it
may be plugged in to an existing socket to save wear and tear. There is
another type, used in some Acorn cartidges, that works by using a
screwdriver to open the latch.
