Subject: Electron with dodgy TV output

I have an Electron which has a flickery TV picture and I'm looking for
advice on how to fix it. The picture is fine for about half a second
then it disappears and reappears again. Also, white areas of the screen
tend to get smeared across to the right, the amount of smearing
depending on the size of the white region.

Composite video and RGB are both fine.

I've tried cleaning the UHF cable and socket with electrical switch
cleaner, and turning the plug round etc, but to no avail. Is it possible
(or even likely) that the modulator is failing? Is there a way to get
spare ones?

john
