Subject: BBC B+ with faulty disc interface

I have just received a BBC B+ 128K with 1770 disc interface but
there appears to be a problem with the disc interface.  When trying
to access a disc, all that happens is that the drive light comes on for
about two seconds and the drive spins but then it cuts out and
nothing else happens.

Has anybody had this problem before and is there a remedy?

I have checked the various PCB links in the service manual.  There are
options for 8" or 5.25" drives but some of the links do not seem to be
made, so I wonder if the disc interface was a user upgrade which has not
been performed in full.
