As much as I would like to see the BBC Micro go into production again,
there are two main obstacles;
- Substitutes for obsolete ICs can show non-authentic behaviour,
causing copy protections to lock up.  Reengineering the old chips is
often thwarted by R&D cost, patent issues and lack of internal details.
- The original machines still circulate cheaply on Ebay.

After 24 years of progress, customers might expect some value added
features: mobility, more memory/speed, instant loading, wireless comms,
better graphics (multiplexing).  The BBC's former niche has been
divided up between PC emulators, handheld consoles and embedded
eurocards that can provide these with minor modification.

Personally if I wanted to remake the Beeb, it would be something like a
65816 based subnotebook that has its own personality plus BBC/Master
emulation.
