I've tried Omnidisk (http://www.8bs.com/submit/omnidisk/OmniDisk.htm) on
about 50 PCs so far (with internal standard FDCs) - all of them read DDOS
(MFM), and only 2 failed to read DFS (FM). Hell, I use a laptop, and it
works on that!!! It auto-senses everything, so there's no need to delve into
the (horrible) PC.

I'm shocked at Jules... have you been using serial all this time?

As for putting a 3.5" drive on the Beeb, I got a 5.25" to 3.5" adapter from
Maplin which contained a suitable edge-connector to IDC converter, plus
power converter cable, and I've got an old Double-Density 3.5" drive which I
just slot in and plug in instead of the normal 5.25" drive. However, you're
still going to need software on the PC capable of reading the FM/MFM format
disks the Beeb produces... i .e.
