This sounds like the SJ Research / Acorn User RAMs - they had two flying
leads you clipped (then soldered when the clips fell off) onto two ICs.

If I get the chance, I'll take apart one of my beebs (that has the SJ
RAM) and see where the RnW lead goes (the other lead connects into the
ROM select circuitry, and is used to pick between the two banks).

The SJ RAM had its own ROM loader, I don't think *LOAD IMAGE 8000 wasn't
enough, I'm not sure if you'd need to use a similar program for your RAM,
if so I can send you the SJ one - it may work...

I do have a spare SJ RAM here somewhere, as far as I can see its just a
32K RAM chip and two leads, or for the sadist, a solidisk RAM with about
20 flying leads!

On a related note, I have an unknown 16k SWR in my Electron - it goes in
one of the spare Advanced Plus 3 ROM slots, and I hooked the RnW onto
some suitable point there.

I had to write a loader for that too, which may of been more because it
was an Electron than anything else ;=)
