As I recall the SOUND command in BASIC (i.e. OSWORD whatever)
was used to utter the phrases in the ROM.

Incidently, Acorn made the same mistake as everybody else in
assuming that the way Texas numbered the data bus pins on
their chips was the conventional way. There's some code in
OS1.2 to reverse every byte before sending it to the speech
chip - because D7 (and not D0) is the least significant bit!
